Opposing Viewpoints on Obesity 4

Although there is a significant debate over whether or not an obesity epidemic does exist, there is also a debate on how to treat this epidemic if it does exists. Jennifer Trueland explains the the two opposing views on this issue. The Scottish government supports the idea of Gastric band surgery for all that are in need of it. But Dr. Richard Weiler disagrees. He believes that the problems of obesity are not resolved by taking the fat off the body, but instead it is necessary for a great increase in physical activity. Dr. Weiler is credible because he is a a sports and medicine specilist. This shows that he has an understanding and a background in this topic therefore making him a credible.

Opposing Viewpoints on Obesity #3

The author expresses his view on the obesity of his city, and expresses his distaste in foods given to kids. The author believes that meals such as happy meals served by McDonald's are the core reason for the one in three chance of type two diabetes in children.  He expounds on his viewpoint by proposing that by cutting back on junk food the health of millions of children can be spared. The author earns credibility by showing that he is involved with a health organization.

Second Viewpoint on Obesity

American citizens are spending $147 billion dollars in trying to get rid of obesity. This writer expresses his opinion on this spending. He believes that it is a waste of money to search for miracle cures for obesity. The only way to cure obesity is to "eat less and move more". The writer shows credibility by telling the reader that he is a dietitian and has struggled with weight all his life. He also shows credibility by explaining that the most effective way that he lost weight is through simple dieting and exercise.

First view point on obesity

Recent studies have shown that there in fact is no obesity epidemic. After a series of experiments, researchers concluded that the are few trends in obesity. The only exception to this is of obese boys. This research goes against what many people believe to be the case throughout the world. It contradicts the idea that due to the effects of fast food and inactivity people of all ages are becoming more obese, but this is not the case.

Monday Matter 3

This picture is illustrates the anger many people have towards the current banking situation and employees of banking companies. There are many that believe that they are being mistreated by the banks. This picture uses rhetorical devices that parallels the opinion of the photographer. For example, the picture is taken in a alley, causing the frame to be small. This parallels the tight situation the man in the picture faces. Another device is the use of the cardboard sign. This indicates that he has very little money, and is fighting the banks because of it. The crowd indicates that there are a large number of people that have a negative opinion of banks and their employees. Finally, the expressions in the faces of the people illustrate pain and anger. This parallels their opinion.

In The NFL and 9/11: Why Both should Be Honored the author, K. C. Dermody, expresses her views on the cermonies that took place on the 10th anniversary of 9/11 in football stadiums across the country. the author blieves that by playing football it shows that our country is still strong. He or she believed that if we were to not play football it would be like giving the terrorists what they wanted. We honor the ones that died on that fatal day by continuing a sunday tradition; football.

Week 1

This article describes the effect of the anniversary of 9/11 had on sports in America and the rest of the world. The article focuses on the ceremonies that took place in all the football stadiums throughout the country. The NFL played a huge part in remebering those who lost their lives on that day. Ceremonies included American flags as big as football stadiums, a eulogy by Robert DeNiro, and USA chants in the stadiums. Also, the NFL promised to sell memorabelia, and give their profits to organizations related to 9/11. Not only was 9/11remembered in America; it was also remembered througout the world in places such as England and New Zealand.
